Gifts and my Amazon Kindle (Love it)

Thank you all again for your sweet comments about my getting well. I am feeling better every day. I did too much yesterday, so I ended up slowing down today. All I did was stay up for a few hours instead of laying down after a couple. So I know I'm not ready to be up for too long yet.

For my birthday, Magnolia Sun gave me a gift certificate to my favorite online stamping store. Papertrey Ink. Here is what I spent it on! I sure wish I felt like making a card but not up to it yet. Thank you, MS.

Ozzie and Rocky's mom sent me this pretty blue and black mosaic cross. It's so unusual. Thank you T.C.! Her son just graduated from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Oh boy...what a pretty sight to see.

Now here is my birthday present. I got this gift early, right before I had my hysterectomy in March. And it's been such a nice thing to have since I've been having to lay around more lately. I love it. It let's you download books, some newspapers and some magazines and a few blogs within 60 seconds. You can browse from wherever you are in the Amazon store. You can read a sample (usually the first chapter of a book) before buying it. You can bookmark spots and you can look up a word in the built-in dictionary while you are reading. It will read to you outloud. I usually can go two weeks before having to charge the battery. I bought the black bookcover separate. I keep it in my bed and that keeps the paws from scratching it if they step on it. It fits in my purse. You can also make the text bigger or smaller. It does not have a light built in, but they sell a light that clips on it. I don't have it. It does other things but I've not done any of them. I'm sure they will come out with a new edition next year.
The only way you can share a book is if you buy more Kindles under your account. Like if my husband or Aunt Sue wanted a Kindle and I bought it under my account, then we could share the books that we buy. But if I ever sell this Kindle to someone, I would take it off my account and they would open up their own account and that Kindle would then be switched to their account and they could not have use of my books.

Overall, I love it. I'm not one that has to turn pages...I like just hitting the button to turn the page. I love not having books pile up....but I miss being able to share the books with others. Not every single book is available on Kindle yet but they are trying to make that happen, especially on new books. I wish my husband would get one because he buys lots of books and they are usually historical, nonfiction and they are lots of pages and they take up lots of room. But he has no interest.

Here are some books that I've read since I got the Kindle:

The House on First Street
Killer Heat
Mrs. Astor Regrets
Tin Roof Blowdown
The Secret's in the Sauce
Scarpetta
Under the Table: Sauce Tales from
Lethal Legacy
The House on Tradd Street
Fatally Flakey

Wow, where have we been? Sorry to hear that you had such awful complications from your surgery. Mommy says you are one brave soul. We are hoping your continued recovery is more painless and quick.

We were thinking of getting a Kindle for Daddy for Father's Day. It is so helpful getting your opinion. I heard Amazon has a Kindle II out -- is that what your is? I wonder what the difference is?

I have the original Kindle and I couldn't live without it now. You will discover when you are feeling better that the screen doesn't reflect when reading it in bright light like sunlight--very nice!!

Also do some surfing for older books that are out of copyright on Project Gutenberg, etc.

Finally try out the ability to upload (download?) jpeg pictures--particularly of family--pugs??

Good healing, Sandy

I keep looking at the Kindle and have wondered how it would be. My thing is that I don't know if I could give up having anactual book in my hands but, it does look really portable which is a huge plus. Especially going on trips, thinking about all the room I'd save from not carrying a bunch of books. Hmmm...

I'm glad you are feeling much better.

How funny, I just sent my husband the Amazon link to the Kindle II a couple of weeks ago. I love to read and told him that would be the ideal gift for me. I am sure I will have to remind him at least once before Christmas, lol.
Glad you are feeling better! I'm still recuperating from our wonderful trip!

Neato on the Kindle! Thanks for the pics and great explanation. I would love one!! I hope the books keep you resting so you will heal quickly! Tell the pug nurses to give some extra cuddles and snuggles.

Cheers!
